Midsummer's Day is known as Enyovden in Bulgaria and is one of the dearest folklore celebrations in Bulgaria, loaded with the magic of herbal scent, water, fire and the Sun. According to the tradition, on this day women leave the house before sunrise to pick medicinal herbs; their walk across the dewy grasses is said to bring good health and good luck. This beautiful tradition has survived for centuries; in one form or another it is present in the cultures of all Slavic people. Vassil Goranov won his first drawing contest at just four years of age. Later he graduated from the Painting programme at St Cyril and St Methodius University in the city of Veliko Tarnovo. With time Goranov outlined his artistic profile and his interest in the historical and military themes became apparent. The artist’s chosen style is historical romanticism, and his paintings ornate history textbooks and covers of scientific volumes.
